When all else fails...

When all else fails...

Make a paper whale! Yes it does appear that I have gone completely mad - thats what fluid mechanics does to you! Anyway, a while back my Dad sent me a wonderful postcard with a cut out whale, so I thought I would make it! - Sure beats doing actual revision! The postcard is quite cool, it has all the tabs and stuff printed on it! Time for some scissors... I cut round roughly at first... Before cutting it neatly, the tabs were a bit fiddly but it turned out alright in the end! Next I folded it all neatly, I should probably have scored it but I didn't have a... [May 28]

Experience Ship Science

Experience Ship Science

On second thoughts... Don't! I just thought you might want to share in the fun and games that is fluid mechanics! Its a really really nice! If you like ridiculously complex integration, stupid formulas and all those weird little letters - what are they all about exactly? What's wrong with the normal alphabet? 26 characters not enough huh? Well anyway, here is a little derivation for you! It shows what the circulation of a fluid is around an infinitely small area. At least I think it does! Erm... Help! So what is this? Is it English? Nope. Is it French? Non! Is it latin? Uh Uh. In... [May 27]

£10 Mobile Phones

£10 Mobile Phones

I just bought a £10 Nokia 1208 and I am totally amazed at what you get. Not only does £10 get you a fully functioning phone, its also very easy to use and comes with some impressive features... It can phone and txt and has mp3 ringtones - not sure if you can add your own or not as there appears to be no way of connecting it to a PC... It has a speaker phone - very useful especially when using those automated call centers! It has all the features you would expect from a more expensive phone, a calculator, the useful converter program, a stopwatch, count down timer, calender,... [May 15]

New Website Finally Here

New Website Finally Here

Its been a few weeks in development but I think it's more than worth the wait! The new JD Pictures site has been completely recoded from scratch, practically no code was reused from the old site, even the database was completely rebuilt. Its been hard work, but I have learnt an awful lot about dynamic websites. I hope you will find the new widgets and simpler design easier to navigate and use. Please please let me know of any errors that you come across- there shouldn't be any but you can never be sure! I have streamlined the code as much as possible to make the site load as fast as... New Website Coming Soon...

New Website Coming Soon...

Well it's been a busy week for me. I have recently decided to switch my host. Currently this site is hosted with Heart Internet. Now don't get me wrong, Heart Internet are great hosts, well most of the time... I have to say at this point that their customer service is second to none! Its Awesome! Anyway, the reason for a switch. I have been developing some new sites, one of them was mentioned in a previous post - dictionaryoffilm.com another is the recently created riggoceanracing.co.uk. In order for the domain names to be used with heart, you either have to set them to forward to a folder... [Apr 07]

The Dictionary of Film

The Dictionary of Film

I have just begun creating a new project. Titled the dictionary of film, it will be an amazing resource for filmmakers of all abilities. Primarily aimed at student filmmakers, the site will include a wiki for how-tos and definitions, a blog for more opinionated articles about filmmaking and a fantastic forum for questions to be answered. The site will be up and running in a couple of weeks. An update will of course be posted! [Mar 25]

Blog now iPhone compatible

The blog on JD Pictures is now compatible with the iPhone and the iPod Touch. Simply visit the site on your Apple device and you will be greeted with the blog in an iPhone / iPod optimised theme. Although the blog is now fully iPhone / iPod compatible, both the photo gallery and films are not. This is something that I will be looking into in a few weeks! Look out for the full JD Pictures experience on your iPhone or iPod after Easter... [Feb 09]

DIY .mac web gallery

DIY .mac web gallery

The Apple .Mac web gallery is one of the coolest javascript based image and video galleries out there, but there are a few problems with it; the biggest two being the fact that the videos are slow-to-load quicktime files, not flash and you have pay a ridiculous £60 per year. This is a project I have begun to make my own version of the .mac web gallery to run on nearly any website... If you haven't seen it already, the .Mac web gallery is a thing of beauty, check it out here: .mac web gallery. It uses a variety of javascript effects to load the images in a pretty cool way. I have been... [Feb 01]

Use your Airport Extreme as a Time Capsule

Use your Airport Extreme as a Time Capsule

UPDATE! Time machine is now officially supported on the Airport Extreme. OK so, a little background... I bought my Airport Extreme base-station last year, shortly after jobs announced in the WWDC conference that Leopard's Time Machine feature could be used with a hard disk mounted on an Airport Extreme. However, upon upgrading to Leopard, I discovered that this was simply not the case. A few months of confusion passed until the MacWorld Conference last month where Jobs announced a new product, the Time Capsule... This to me is exactly what I have already got, surely the Time Capsule is just... [Feb 01]
