Award Winning Photographs

Category: Photography | 1 Comment | 9th May 2007

Jacob Deane has won a top award in this year's Shape the Future photo competition, a celebration of engineering and technology through photography. The five images of wind turbines have been selected to be shown at the 2006 Celebration of Engineering in Greenwich next month.

The theme for the competition was "how engineering and technology improves our lives." The local windfarm seemed a good subject for the competition - it improves our lives but does it 'scar' the landscape?

Personally I love the sleek looks and awesome power these machines have. I think it is a great pity that a nation can detest them when they accept the ugliness of electricity pillons which are the real scar on the landscape...

Good work deaney they are awesome picture! I totally agree with you, i think it is ridiculous how people say they are a scar on the landscape when there are much worse 'scars' like the pilons, we have a mast in our backgarden and this does not seem to spoil the views so why should something much more majestic spoil others, especially when located in areas such as near motorways! My favourite is the fourth image but it is very cool how you have made 9 blades instead of 3 in the first image. ju ;)

Have your say
